In a 2006 VW Jetta, the factory amp is located behind the dash near the glove box. If the amp is not functioning, you should inspect the fuse box. To access the fuse box, look on the left side of the steering wheel for a small seam or crack in the dash. Gently pry this open with a screwdriver or prybar. Inside, you will find several fuses. The back of the panel you removed should have a diagram indicating the purpose of each fuse. If the diagram is not there, you can also locate it in the vehicle's owner's manual. Identify the fuse you need and remove it. Check if the thin strip of metal connecting the two sections of the fuse is intact; if it is broken, the fuse is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the strip is intact, the fuse is still good and can be reinserted. Replacement fuses are inexpensive, typically costing around 10 dollars.
