The 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee does not have a traditional fuel filter but a small sleeve, also known as a "sock," located at the bottom of the fuel pump inside the gas tank. This component is not meant to be replaced separately as it is part of the fuel pump. The reason for having this type of filter in the tank is because modern gas stations usually provide clean fuel without much sediment or impurities. While there have been a few isolated cases of contaminated fuel, such as the Shell stations in northwest Indiana and southern Illinois in August 2017, in general, there is little need for a separate fuel filter. However, if this sock filter gets clogged, it can cause starting and running issues for your engine, and you will be relieved that you only have to replace the fuel pump instead of the entire engine.
