To do an oil change on a Chevrolet Cobalt, start by locating the oil drain plug at the bottom of the oil pan. You'll typically find it there. Jack up your car to reach the plug comfortably and make sure there is enough space for a container underneath. If you have a 2.2L or 2.4L model, use 5.0 quarts of SAE 5W-30 full synthetic oil. For the 2.0 liter turbocharged version, you'll need 6.0 quarts of the same oil. While you can use SAE 5W-40 as a temporary substitute, it's not advised as thicker oil can cause friction and accelerate engine wear and tear.
Check underneath the engine at the oil pan to find where the oil drain plug is located.
