The speed sensor in a Ford F-150 is positioned at the back of the transmission. This sensor keeps track of the transmission output or wheel speed. If your VSS sensor is faulty, you may notice the transmission revving higher before shifting gears, delayed engagement into overdrive, and unreliable speedometer readings, along with cruise control issues. While you could likely drive to the mechanic with a faulty sensor, it's risky to drive the vehicle any longer than that.
