The speed sensor on a 2004 Jeep Liberty is situated on the right rear side of the transmission near the tail shaft under the vehicle's hood. This component, known as the vehicle speed sensor (VSS), gauges the speed of the transmission output or wheel rotation. The engine control module (ECM) utilizes this data to adjust various engine functions like ignition timing, air/fuel mixture, transmission shift points, and to execute diagnostic tests. To put it simply, the engine speed sensor, alternatively referred to as the vehicle speed sensor, relays to the car's computer details on the engine's current RPM by monitoring the crankshaft's rotation speed.

The speed sensor for the 2004 Jeep Liberty can be found on the right side at the back of the transmission, close to the tail shaft, underneath the vehicle's hood.

I'm experiencing the same problems. I even removed the seats to inspect the wiring inside the cab of my 2004 Liberty. I checked for any broken wires but couldn't find any. It seems like the wiring may have been replaced before. I already replaced the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) on the differential, but I'm still not getting any readings on the odometer or speedometer.

I switched out the speed sensor and got the speedometer working again, but it stopped shortly after. When I hit a bump, it started working again, then stopped once more. The odometer, tachometer, and all other gauges are working fine, except for the speedometer.

I've installed all these new parts on my Jeep, but now my speedometer isn't working. Any ideas on what might be causing this issue?
