The transmission control module (TCM) on the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu can be found at the top of the transmission, securely attached inside the bell housing. A new TCM can range in price from $385 for the Dorman 609-018 model to $750 for the ITS609-008 model, and they are typically well-made even at these costs. Moreover, you will need to have the TCM programmed with the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) software, which may not be readily available from GM. Symptoms of a failing TCM include issues like stalling during gear changes, difficulty shifting gears, failure to downshift when stopped, getting stuck in neutral, or having trouble upshifting while accelerating.
