The cabin air filter in the 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche is positioned below the glovebox on the passenger side. It's recommended to replace this filter every 15,000 miles or annually. Beneath the glovebox, locate a plastic panel that must be removed to access the air filter housing cover. Unscrew the housing cover to reveal two filters; extract them carefully noting their positions for easier replacement. Slide in the new filters ensuring the air flow arrow faces towards the driver's side. Finally, secure the housing and panel covers in place.

I apologize, but I removed the glove box and the drop cover and still couldn't find the filter cover. I even watched some videos to make sure I was looking in the right place. It seems like not all the early models, including my 2006 Avalanche, have this feature.
