The crankshaft position sensor of a 2006 Chevy Impala with a 3.9L V6 engine is located on the firewall side of the engine, right behind it. When checking from underneath, you can spot it between the oil pan and transmission fluid pans. It sits a bit higher than the oil pan but lower than the transmission pan. These sensors tend to fail frequently in this engine model. If you need to replace the sensor, it will set you back around $20 to $35. Taking it to a professional auto shop for the replacement will cost between $200 and $320.
