The 2009 Chevy Malibu speed sensor is located on the output shaft of the transmission. This sensor is responsible for monitoring the speed of the output shaft and transmitting that data to the ECU. The ECU processes this information and sends the accurate speed readings to your speedometer to indicate your current driving speed. If there are issues with the speed sensor, you may notice a check engine light illuminated on your dashboard. Additionally, your speedometer may malfunction, displaying either no speed at all or incorrect readings depending on the extent of the sensor's failure. Replacing the speed sensor typically costs around $100 when done at a repair shop.
Check the interior or underside of the transmission to find the speed sensor.
