In a 2006 Ford Fusion, the starter is located at the top rear area of the engine. To access it, you'll first need to remove the battery. The starter, which is a small motor powered by the battery, is responsible for initiating the engine of your car. If the starter relay and motor are not functioning properly, you may find yourself unable to even move your car out of a parking space without needing a jumpstart or a tow. One indication of a faulty starter is a clicking sound when you turn the key or press the start button, although it is possible for a starter to fail silently or provide warning signs such as whirring and grinding noises, so make sure to pay attention!
