In the 2004 Ram 1500, the transmission control module (TCM) is situated on the firewall on the passenger side of the vehicle. It appears as a thin, rectangular silver and black module with a wiring harness attached to it, resembling a wallet but slightly larger. It's easy to spot once you know what to look for. Replacing the TCM through a professional mechanic can cost you around $900, parts and labor included. However, if you prefer a DIY approach, you can purchase a new TCM for approximately $500 or opt for a remanufactured unit for as low as $175.

My 2005 Dodge with a 5.7 Magnum engine only shifts between second and drive, and in the morning it stays in high gears without shifting to lower gears. I'm not sure if the Transmission Control Module (TCM) or the transmission solenoid is causing this issue. Can you help me identify the root of the problem?

It seems like it moves by itself.

Today, I switched out the component within the transmission.... It turns out that wasn't the issue after all.

So, which one are we talking about exactly? I couldn't locate it on the internet either.
