There are a variety of factors that might be the root cause of a MINI Cooper's wipers not functioning properly. The initial step is to check the relay, as a malfunctioning one can interrupt the power supply to the wiper motor by breaking the circuit. This relay can be found in the engine compartment's power distribution box on the driver's side, close to the shock tower. With time, the wiring may degrade, get damaged, or a connector could come loose or become corroded. It's also plausible that the wiper motor itself is at fault, as its internal windings could become oxidized and lead to seizing up. Running the wipers with frost or ice on the windshield may result in the splines in the wiper arm getting stripped, causing the gear to slip.
The reason why your MINI Cooper windshield wipers are not functioning could be due to a blown fuse or a faulty wiper motor.
The connection within the earth has failed, so you should investigate by attaching an external ground wire from the motor's mounting bolts to a reliable earth source.
