When using the 4.0-liter engine, the 2007 Nissan Xterra requires 5.1 liters (5.4 quarts) of SAE 5W-30 synthetic motor oil. This type of oil doesn't need to be changed as frequently as conventional oils. Nissan suggests changing the oil in your Xterra every 6,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. However, your individual driving habits will impact when you need to change it. For instance, if you have a long daily commute with a lot of stop-and-go traffic, you may need an earlier oil change. It's wise to regularly check the oil level, even outside of scheduled changes, to prevent potential engine damage from low, dirty, or thick oil. Always wait at least 5 minutes after the engine cools down before checking or changing the oil.
