Each version of the 2007 Toyota 4Runner comes with a choice of engines: a 4.0L V6 or a larger 4.7L V8. The engine size you choose impacts the oil capacity - the 4.0L engine requires 5.5 quarts of oil, while the bigger 4.7L engine needs 6.6 quarts. Regardless of the engine, both models call for SAE 5W-30 full synthetic oil. In urgent situations, you may use SAE 5W-40 as a substitute, but it's not recommended, especially in the long run. This recommendation is based on viscosity; higher viscosity oil creates more engine friction, making the motor work harder for the same result. This extra strain can lead to premature engine damage, so it's best to adhere to the manufacturer's suggested oil with the lower viscosity numbers.
