Every 2012 Toyota Yaris model variant is equipped with the same 1.5L 4-cylinder engine, known as the 1NZ-FE. The sedan models require 3.9 quarts of SAE 5W-20 oil, while the hatchback models need 3.9 quarts of SAE 5W-30 oil. In case of an emergency, you can use SAE 10W-30 as a substitute for either type, although this is not advisable. Opting for a higher-weight oil will lead to increased friction and viscosity in your engine, causing more wear and tear over time and potentially resulting in premature engine failure. It is wise to follow the manufacturer's recommendation of using the specified oil with the lowest weight, even if it may cost a bit more per change. Your engine will thank you in the long run.
