Chevrolet advises adjusting the tire pressure of your Volt to 36 psi per tire. It's crucial to maintain the correct tire inflation for three main reasons. Firstly, properly inflated tires have a longer lifespan compared to tires that are under or overinflated. The second reason is safety, as tires with incorrect pressure can affect braking and acceleration, potentially leading to dangerous outcomes. Lastly, maintaining the right tire pressure contributes to better fuel efficiency, as low pressure increases resistance between the vehicle and the road, resulting in decreased fuel economy.

The recommended tire pressures for the Volt have been too low since the beginning. Following the factory recommendations have led to tire failures on the sidewalls and quicker wear. Contrary to James B's belief, the recommended tire pressure for the 2019 Volt is 39, which is still considered too low. For the 2016-2018 models using the same tires, the recommended pressure was 36, but this caused excessive wear due to underinflation. Personally, I have found that maintaining a tire pressure of 41-42 for my 2017 Volt resulted in even tire wear. Therefore, I now keep both my 2017 and 2019 Volts at a pressure of 41-42.

What is the reason for using this particular air pressure recommendation? We find ourselves frequently adding air to the tire as our sensors keep alerting us. We want to investigate if there is a connection between the two.

The suggested tire pressure is 39 to 40 PSI, but a lower pressure of 35 to 36 PSI will provide a more comfortable and quieter driving experience.
