The 2011 Ford F-150's neutral safety switch is located at the base of the gear selector on the right side, where it connects to the transmission. When this switch malfunctions, you may experience difficulty starting your truck or shifting out of park. To check if the neutral safety switch is faulty, turn off the car and try starting the truck. If it doesn't start, move the transmission selector to neutral. If it starts in neutral, it indicates a faulty safety switch. Replacing the switch itself is inexpensive, but labor costs from a mechanic may be around $200 to access and replace it.

If you lack experience working inside a transmission, it is not advisable to attempt this repair. Unlike a standard neutral safety switch, the range sensor is not located externally or on the gear selector.
