The 2001 Ford F-150 comes with a key that has a special computer chip for security. This chip is linked to the vehicle's VIN and ignition, meaning only the original key can start the truck unless a new key is programmed. When replacing the ignition, any existing keys must either be replaced or reprogrammed to match the new ignition's chip. To program a spare key for your F-150, insert the original key into the ignition and switch between the "on" and "off" positions quickly without starting the truck. Then, within 5 seconds, insert the spare key and repeat the process. If done correctly, the truck's "theft indicator" light will flash three times and turn off, confirming successful programming.

My first transponder key smart device broke apart inside the key, so I had a locksmith create a duplicate transponder key identical to the original one last summer. Now, how do I go about starting the truck with the second key without affecting the first one?
