This 2006 Nissan X-Trail features a timing chain instead of a belt. The timing chain is built to last the entire lifespan of the vehicle under normal conditions, so you shouldn't have to worry about it. However, it is still possible for the timing chain to get damaged or fail. If this occurs, you will notice the car overheating almost immediately. Replacing the timing chain can cost around $100 for the part and an additional $100 for labor. Take care when purchasing a replacement chain online, as some sellers may incorrectly label both a timing chain and a timing belt as a cam belt. Using a timing belt as a replacement won't work and could leave you with a part that is not usable.
