The 2008 Audi A6 3.1 L V6 is equipped with a timing chain that ensures the proper synchronization between the crankshaft and camshaft. When the crankshaft rotates, it causes the pistons to move up and down within the engine. Meanwhile, the camshaft controls the intake and exhaust valves by opening and closing them at the right times. When the piston moves upward, the intake valve opens to allow the air/fuel mixture to enter the cylinder. The intake valve then closes as the mixture is compressed and ignited by the spark plug. This ignition leads to the burning of the fuel, resulting in the downward movement of the piston. To expel the burnt gas, the exhaust valve opens, allowing it to exit the engine through the exhaust pipe. If the alignment between the cam and crank is incorrect, the engine may misfire or fail to start altogether.
