This change, implemented by Toyota in 2007, is a significant improvement in my view. The old timing belt required costly replacement every 60,000 to 100,000 miles, whereas a chain should last over 300,000 miles without any servicing needed. It's still advisable to inspect the chain annually for any debris or damage. Additionally, it's important to replace the water pump every 100,000 miles as it is connected to the chain drive.
