The 2012 Ford Fiesta comes with a timing belt that should be changed every 60,000 to 90,000 miles. It's recommended to also replace the timing belt tensioner, idler pulleys, and water pump when changing the timing belt. Timing belts are positioned outside the engine and may dry out and develop cracks over time. If the timing belt fails, it can lead to a ticking noise while the car is in operation, usually indicating low oil pressure or insufficient engine lubrication. If the timing belt snaps inside, the engine will be unable to start.
