The 2005 Honda Civic requires 3.7 quarts of SAE 5W-20 full synthetic oil for an oil change. To begin, ensure the car has been parked and turned off for a few hours to avoid hot oil burns. Locate the oil pan and drain plug underneath the engine. Place a bucket beneath the plug and remove it to allow the oil to drain out completely, which may take up to an hour. Once the dripping stops, reattach the drain plug. Next, find the intake port on the top of the oil pan and use a funnel to refill it to the full mark, making sure not to overfill. It's okay to be a bit under, but overfilling can cause leaks and oil burn off. After filling it up, close the port, clean up any spills, and you're all set.

My 2005 Honda Civic is consuming a significant amount of oil, yet it doesn't produce smoke and I don't see any oil leaks on the ground. However, when I check the dipstick, there is no oil present. Where could the oil be disappearing to?

The 2005 Honda Civic's different engine options require varying amounts of oil. The 1.3L and 1.7L inline-4 engines take 3.4 quarts, while some 1.7L models need 3.7 quarts. The 2.0L inline-4 engine requires 4.4 quarts. Despite the different oil capacities, all engines for the 2005 Civic use the same 5W20 synthetic oil.

The manual suggests using 5w20 oil, but in northeast Ohio, I have found that 0w20 oil works much better for my 2005 Civic EX SE. I highly recommend using synthetic oil because 0w20 is only available in synthetic, which helps avoid human error. The oil capacity is between 3.4 and 3.7 quarts, but the slight difference won't make a significant impact. I suggest going with 3.5 quarts to allow for some margin of error.
