The 2005 Subaru Forester originally came equipped with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, but there was an option to upgrade to a turbocharged version of this engine. Both models have an oil capacity of 4.2 US quarts including the filter and use fully synthetic 5W-30 oil. The oil plug drain on these vehicles is 17mm in head size and requires a torque of 20 lbs-ft to be removed. It's recommended to change your Forester's oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. The cost to fully fill up the oil shouldn't exceed $20 to $30.
The 2005 Subaru Forester offers two variations of its 2.5-liter flat-4 engine: one with a turbo and one without. Both versions require 4.2 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil.
