For optimum performance in a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, it is recommended to use AC Delco synthetic blend engine oil. The 2.0L L4 engine requires SAE 5W-30 viscosity, while the 2.5L engine can use either SAE 5W-20 or SAE 0W-20. Dexos1 certified oils of the same viscosity can also be used as alternatives. Both engine types can hold up to 5 quarts of oil including the filter. The Malibu features an engine oil life system that constantly monitors engine conditions to determine when an oil change is necessary. A "CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON" message will appear on the dashboard when it is time for an oil change. In case the system malfunctions or is reset mistakenly, it is advisable to change the oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles as a general rule.
