There's an extended warranty available for Honda Civic models from 2006 to 2009 that addresses issues with cracked engine blocks for up to 10 years. Some common engine problems you may encounter include loose gaskets, oil leaks, spark plug issues, and engine overheating - which can be a serious concern leading to potential vehicle fires. Additionally, keep an eye out for excessive oil consumption, and remember to change your air filter every 15,000 to 30,000 miles, coolant every 60,000 miles, and spark plugs every 100,000 miles, unless you're using copper spark plugs - in that case, they should be changed every 30,000 miles or so.
What happens if the warranty has expired?
Honda is providing a complimentary replacement engine block or a brand-new engine at no cost to individuals who own 2006-2008 and early 2009 Civics and have experienced a coolant leak originating from the engine block.
It wasn't subject to recall; instead, they decided to extend the warranty to ten years from the date of the original purchase (refer to service bulletin A10-048).
Engine block refers to the main structural component of an internal combustion engine, which houses the cylinders where fuel is burned to generate power.
