There is a service bulletin for the oil pump in Ford Rangers, but there are currently no active recalls for them. The bulletin addresses the issue of the oil pump in the Ranger not priming properly after an oil change. When changing the oil in a Ranger, it's important to work efficiently. Allowing the oil to drain for more than ten minutes can cause the pump to lose its prime when refilling, resulting in insufficient oil circulation through the engine and potential damage. To prevent this, it's recommended not to fully drain the engine during the oil change process.

The Ford Ranger 3.2 is being recalled because of an issue with the oil pump that can cause it to fail to prime, leading to a situation where the engine is not properly lubricated and could be at risk of damage.

Almost all the oil can be drained in just 5 minutes. I've performed numerous oil changes on these cars and it's a simple task. Let the oil drain until it's barely dripping, then put back the sump plug and change the filter. The key is to be well-prepared with the right amount of pre-poured oil that can be easily poured. The real issue is the oil pump failing! It's quite disappointing that Ford opted for this oil pump to cut fuel usage a little. Traditional oil pumps are reliable and tried-and-true, lasting practically forever and faultlessly working for a century.

Gary Serdent, you're an idiot!!! Drain the oil until it's barely dripping! Whether it's half full, completely full, or one-third full doesn't make a difference. Drain it until it's just trickling, then put back the sump plug. Don't allow it to continue draining while you waste time on some forum.

The instructions advise not to fully drain the container. But how can you tell when it's almost empty? It states not to drain for more than 10 minutes. But what if only half the amount is visible on the dipstick? Does that mean not to drain for more than 5 minutes then?
