There hasn't been any official recall for the faulty VTC actuator in the 2014 Honda CR-V, even though it's been identified as a known issue. When the actuator malfunctions, the engine will make a loud rattling noise for a couple of seconds upon startup, especially in colder weather. To check for this problem, you can leave the car for about 6 hours to let the oil in the VTC system drain, then listen for the noise when starting the engine. If you hear the rattle, it means the VTC actuator needs to be replaced. This repair can be complex, involving the removal of several components like the frame brace, engine cover, ignition coils, oil dipstick, breather hose, and brake booster vacuum line from the head. The timing chain and camshaft also need to be taken out to access the VTC actuator at the end of the camshaft.

I am absolutely done with HONDA! They know all about the issue with the VTC ACTUATOR but won't do anything to remedy it. I own a 2014 CRV and I've had to replace it three times already. The repairs cost me over $2,000 each time, and they're not taking responsibility for their products. It's infuriating!
