In short, yes, there have been recalls for Ford Explorers made around 2014 and 2015 due to a design flaw where the door panel separates from the interior. This defect causes the door panel to warp and compromise the vehicle's structural integrity over time. Additionally, there were issues with faulty door trim on the Explorer, exacerbating the problem. Consequently, Ford recalled many Explorers as they were considered unsafe for public use.

My 2015 Ford Explorer XLT is having issues with the driver's side door panel falling apart. I've seen many complaints about this problem. Is there a recall for it, and if so, what is the recall number?

  • Deborah Dennis

I got my front passenger door panel replaced for my 2014 Explorer three years back because it tore at the seam near the armrest. Luckily, it was covered by warranty then. But now, the same problem has cropped up again in the same spot. Since the warranty has expired, I'll have to foot the bill for fixing it this time.

Today, I brought my car to the dealership for the rear suspension toe link recall mentioned in a letter I received last November. When I inquired about the door panels, I was informed that the recall had expired after 5 years or 100,000 miles, whichever came first. They gave me an estimate of almost $1800 for the repair. No way am I paying that if it's a recognized problem and they won't take responsibility for it! Absolutely unacceptable business practice! (And yes, I purchased my car secondhand, so this issue wasn't present when I bought it.)

I feel the same way! Has anyone gotten it fixed?

We should reach out to our neighborhood news outlets and state lawmakers. This is a crucial matter regarding safety. Together, we are stronger!

It seems that the recall was for vehicles with 100,000 miles or less and/or those that are under 5 years old. The issue began with the window area a few months ago. Do I have any options available to address this situation?

The Ford Explorer models from 2014 and 2015 are being recalled to fix issues with the door panel and armrest splitting, as well as problems with the front door trim panel. This recall falls under the customer satisfaction program 17n04.

My wife is experiencing the same problem. It's absurd that the recall ends with your warranty, considering recalls are meant to address known defects that don't disappear on a deadline. This situation is disheartening as it has me questioning whether owning Fords is still a wise choice, despite having been loyal to the brand for so long.

  • Monique R.

In 2014, my Ford Explorer is experiencing the same problem. Ford pretty much said it's my problem to deal with. The customer service at Ford is absolutely terrible.

  • Cesar D

The driver's side door was repaired poorly, and now the issue has shifted to the passenger side door panel. It is unfortunate! Ford should recall until they address this flaw.

  • Israel M.

My 2014 vehicle is experiencing a similar issue. The material near the door handle started to crack just before you grab it to close the door, which is a disappointing flaw in the interior design.

  • Melissa J

Numerous reports have been made about the door panel warping and developing defects, yet Ford has not taken any action to issue a recall for this issue.

I need assistance. The front door panels on my 2014 Explorer became unglued a year ago. When I contacted the dealers regarding six recalls, they directed me to a recording to leave my information, with promises of a call back. However, they have not followed through on their promises.

In my 2022 Explorer, the seam on the driver's door upholstery is starting to come undone. Is there a DIY method I can use to reattach the seam?

In 2015, the front door panels of my Ford Explorer XLT started to warp. I am the second owner of the vehicle and was unaware of any recall. When I contacted Ford customer service for assistance, they informed me that the warranty had expired, and I would have to cover the cost of repairs. As a loyal customer who has purchased your products, it is disheartening that I am not being supported in this situation.

My 2015 vehicle is experiencing the same problem with both the driver and passenger doors. After being advised to look for a recall, I discovered that the issue has been ongoing for some time. Unfortunately, with my mileage now at 106,000, I fear that the manufacturer may not honor any potential repairs under warranty.

There was a recall a couple of years back when I had to get mine changed. It was just the part on the door near the window. The rubber on my driver's side armrest was starting to come off then, but they said that wasn't covered by the recall.

I'm frustrated with the poor communication about this issue. It occurred just two weeks before they found it during my oil change appointment. From now on, I will check for recalls whenever I experience any problems.

The beginning of my 2015 is marked by an issue with the driver's side window. I haven't contacted Ford about it, but from what I gather, they might not be very helpful if the warranty is expired. Does anyone have a solution?

There's this recall, 17n04, but as far as I know, it's expired, which doesn't make any sense to me.

  • Becky L

I'm facing the identical issue in 2015 as well.

  • Best job I ever had.

I'm experiencing the exact same issue with my 2014 model.

I received a notice about a problem with my driver's door, so I had it repaired as per the recall. Unfortunately, about a year later, the passenger side door had the same issue, but it wasn't included in the recall. I find it frustrating because they were aware of the problem and should have addressed it for all affected doors.

I brought in my 2014 vehicle for a tow link issue in January 2022, and the dealership fixed it with no issues. However, now the upper part of my driver's side door panel has become loose.

I'm also experiencing problems with my 2014 Explorer Sport that I bought brand new (and it only has 29,459 miles). Luckily, I have an extended warranty, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's covered. 🤞

In 2015, the Explorer Limited experienced a similar problem with the upholstery lifting on the front door panels. Ford, this reflects poorly on you.

Grab some FLEX Glue Epoxy and apply it to the front windshield after taping off the area, just like I did on mine. Eventually, the inside door panel started warping, likely due to the heat. It's been like that for several years, but I managed to reform it using a heat gun so it doesn't bulge. Sometimes you just have to take matters into your own hands. The FLEX GLUE ON THE WINDSHIELD is still holding up well. It remains flexible yet hardens adequately to provide a solid fix and looks good. Remember to use masking tape around the area to maintain straight lines. Good luck!

  • Devora R

My side car door panel is starting to come loose at the lower edge, not near the window. I asked the staff at the car service center about it, but they didn't have any information. I have had Ford cars in the past, and this has never occurred before. Can you please provide assistance?

  • Zach Ramirez

I'm experiencing a similar problem with my 2014 Ford Explorer. Back when my car was still under warranty, I inquired about repairing the stitching but was informed that it wouldn't be covered. It seems like there may have been a recall in the past. It's quite frustrating and disheartening in terms of quality.

  • Danny m

I'm dealing with that exact issue with my 2019 model as well.

Is there a recall for the weatherstrip on my 2014 Explorer because it's damaged?

  • James Kimbrough

I'm facing a similar issue with my 2015 Explorer where the top is peeling off. This happened last year, and initially, I thought it was due to the heat. However, after reading these comments, I don't want to shell out $500 for a new door panel.

  • Darrin E.

In 2014, I purchased a Ford Explorer and never received any recall notifications. The issue is that both door panels are starting to lift, which is frustrating because I adore this beautiful car and want to keep it looking well-maintained.

  • Brandon W.

I'm experiencing an issue with the SIM card in my 2015 Explorer.

  • Justin Hartley

My car's front door armrests from 2012 are starting to split, but there is no recall to address this issue. What happens when I trade in the car? Any experiences trying to repair them independently?

  • Lora P.

In 2017, my Explorer Sport experienced a sudden loss of both front door panels and the tow hitch cover while driving on the highway. Ford quoted me $1,850 for the repairs, which I found unreasonable. As a result, I've been driving without these components. Thanks, Ford!

  • Surinder

My 2014 Explorer Limited hasn't had any issues with the door panels so far, but the material in the middle console - whatever it's made of - recently started to crack and develop a spiderweb pattern. It looks terrible and is frustrating.

  • Jay A.

I recently purchased a 2015 Ford Explorer Sport with 48300 miles. I noticed some debris inside the passenger side door panel, causing it to have a wavy, puckered appearance near the window. The corner of the panel is also not fitting properly. When I brought it to Carmax's attention, they mentioned that this is a common issue with Ford's door panels. It's frustrating to see this on a vehicle I paid a significant amount of money for. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
