To turn off the 4x4 feature on your Ford Explorer, simply press one of the three buttons labeled 4x4 High, 4x4 Low, or 4x4 Auto located on your dashboard near the radio. Make sure your vehicle is in neutral before pressing any of these buttons to switch in or out of the desired mode. An interesting feature is the 4x4 Auto mode, which activates the system only when your Explorer senses tire slippage or a speed difference between the front and rear wheels. It is generally safe to keep this feature on even when driving on dry roads, unlike using 4x4 at high speeds.

I have a feature called "intelligent 4-wheel drive," which is essentially the same as "all-wheel drive," but there's no specific control to turn it off. Does anyone know how to deactivate this feature?

I don't have a button, I have a switch that goes from left to right. When I put it in neutral and switch to auto 4x4 mode, nothing happens. Sometimes when the truck heats up, the 98 Ford Explorer only shifts to 4x4. How can I disengage the 4x4 mode? When I turn corners, it jerks violently, making me worried about damaging my engine. The same happens when I reverse, and it veers to the side on the road in 4x4 mode. I can't seem to revert it back to regular driving mode.
