In a Ram 1500, if you see code P018C, it means there's a problem with the fuel pressure sensor located on the fuel rail at the back of the engine near the firewall. When this sensor malfunctions, it can cause the engine control unit (ECU) to supply the wrong amount of fuel to the engine, leading to starting issues or even preventing the engine from starting altogether. A new sensor typically costs between $65 and $95. You can easily replace it yourself with just a few basic tools by removing the air tube and engine cover, locating the sensor on the fuel rail, disconnecting the electrical connection, and then using a fuel line tool to detach it from the fuel line. If you prefer to have a shop handle the replacement, expect labor costs to range from $145 to $250.

The code P018C is triggered by the PCM detecting a weak signal from the fuel pressure sensor, which typically suggests a short circuit.
