How can I access the fuel tank on a Ford Escape?

The basic versions of the Ford Escape don't come with a way to open the fuel door from inside the car. You'll have to get out and walk over to the passenger side to open it manually. Once it's open, simply insert the gas nozzle into the slot. Unlike other vehicles, the gas cap on this car remains fixed, and you just need to fold back the door to fill up with gas.

To access the gas tank of a Ford Escape, you can either use the fuel tank release lever inside the vehicle or locate the gas tank door at the rear side of the car. If there is no interior release lever, you can push in or pull open the gas tank door to open it.

There is no button to release or door handle to push, you simply open the gas tank by pulling on the side.

This is a classic illustration of Ford engaging in cost-saving brainstorming. I foresee potential issues once the warranty expires.
