Even if your Ford Fusion's battery is dead, you can still access the trunk. To do this, first enter the vehicle using the key within the keyfob if the doors are locked. Next, locate the small latch to remove the metal key. Once inside, you can open the trunk using the internal release latch by lowering the rear seats and accessing it from there. Another option is to jump-start or charge the Fusion's battery. As the battery is situated in the trunk, you will need to use the designated jump points in the engine bay, outlined in your owner's manual. These jump points are used in the same way as traditional battery terminals during a jump start.

Ford Pass detected that my battery was being depleted, so it shut off all electrical systems. I couldn't access my trunk to retrieve my jumper cables, so I used the emergency key from the key fob to enter the car. Unfortunately, the trunk release button was unresponsive, but I was able to open the hood. It's surprising that the jumpers are typically stored in the trunk.

Try folding down the rear seat from inside the car, which will allow access to the trunk. Then, use the emergency release.

I have to mention, my issue wasn't just a dead battery. Ford Pass actually shut down all the electrical functions. Plus, having two child car seats made it impossible to access the inside for help. However, when roadside assistance arrived, the car started immediately with a portable jumper box. So, it turns out the battery wasn't the problem after all.

To kickstart the fusion, you can connect jumper cables from under the hood to the battery in the trunk when it's dead and you can't open it due to lack of power.

Ford's "brighter concept" involves creating a system that prevents the trunk of the Fiesta from being opened when the car's battery is dead. This is frustrating for many of us who typically store our jumper cables in the trunk. Argh!

If you own a Fusion Energi model, it is recommended to connect jumper cables to the positive terminal identified by a red plastic cover on the driver's side near the fender, and the other end to any metal ground. This allows you to access the battery by opening the trunk. Many electric vehicle batteries obstruct access to the emergency trunk release in the middle of the trunk lid. If you are unable to open a door, you can use the key incorporated into the key fob.
