AWD is seen as a premium feature in an SUV, providing enhanced stability by distributing power equally to all four wheels. The Chevy Equinox offers AWD as an option for the LT, LS, and Premier trims, activated by pressing the "AWD" button on the gear shift console. While the Equinox is primarily a FWD vehicle, drivers can switch to AWD for improved traction in challenging road conditions. This system is considered "part-time" as it is not always active, unlike in some other SUVs where AWD is continuously engaged and requires driver input to deactivate. Using AWD may result in a slight decrease in fuel efficiency due to the additional engine power needed to drive all wheels.

The person who sold me my 2018 Equinox in AWD said that you can only switch it to AWD mode when the vehicle is not moving. Surprisingly, this information is not mentioned in the owner's manual.

When I activate the all-wheel drive feature on my 2019 Chevy Equinox, I don't see any dashboard indicator showing whether it's on or off. Does anyone know why this is the case? Thanks.

When you're driving on the highway, you don't require all-wheel drive (AWD) and should turn it off. Doing so can lead to significant savings on gas mileage.
