To activate the overhead light in a Chevy Silverado, locate the control dial on the left side of the steering wheel. There is a switch with different settings, including "dome." Push the switch up to the dome setting to turn on the light. The truck offers on, off, and auto modes. The auto mode will illuminate the dome light when the doors are opened, aiding visibility when entering or exiting the vehicle. If the dome light remains on in auto mode, there may be a faulty switch that needs to be repaired to prevent battery drainage. Be sure to manually switch it off in this case.

In 2024, the 2500 LTZ Z71 has an overhead console where the switch is originally set to the off position. The yellow LED on the switch was illuminated. Pressing the button turned off the LED, and now the lights turn on when the doors are opened or closed.
