To refill the transmission fluid in a 2010 Chevy Malibu, you should use ATF Dexron VI. The capacity is 7.0 quarts for a 4-speed transmission and 5.3 quarts for a 6-speed. First, open the hood using the lever under the driver's side dashboard. Some models may not have a dipstick, so you might need a mechanic to check the fluid level. Make sure the car is at the operating temperature before adding the fluid. Remove the dipstick, pour in the fluid until it reaches the max line, and then recheck the level by shifting through the gears.

Do I need to have the car turned on? I was informed that the car needs to be turned on. I removed the drain plug and fill plug, then started the car and transmission fluid splattered everywhere. I poured in 8 quarts of transmission fluid through the fill cap, but nothing is coming out of the overfill bolt, and I find it hard to believe that I could be 8 quarts low on transmission fluid. Can you please assist me with this issue?

Make sure the car is on a flat surface and let the transmission warm up to normal operating temperature before you take out the overfill bolt.

Remove the small side plug from the transmission of a 2010 Malibu, which looks like a mini oil plug. Next, find and remove the transmission fill cap under the hood. Gradually pour transmission fluid into the side of the transmission until it starts coming out of the overfill opening.
