For most Ford Transits made in different model years, this procedure should work. However, always double-check to ensure it's suitable for your specific model before proceeding. Assuming you already have a new oil cooler, which typically costs around $80 from most retailers, if you opt for professional labor, it may add another $150 or so. Start by draining the coolant and removing the lower radiator hose. Crawl under your Ford and locate the oil filter, which you should consider replacing while you're at it. Look for the metal fins atop the filter housing with two pipes attached. Disconnect the pipes and locate the bolts securing the housing to the engine's side. Carefully remove these bolts, being mindful not to get oil sprayed on you. Once they're off, you can extract the filter housing and cooler as a single unit. To replace the cooler, remove four additional bolts, and then reverse the process by installing new gaskets, the oil filter, and refilling the cooling system.
