To change the rear brake pads on a 2017 Ford Explorer, you'll require both 13mm and 19mm sockets, along with other tools. Start by using a 19mm socket and breaker bar to remove the rear wheel. Lift the vehicle, then remove the lug nuts and take off the tire. Use a 15mm wrench and a 13mm socket and ratchet to take out the caliper bolts, repeating for the top bolt. Slip off the caliper with a screwdriver and secure it with a bungee cord to the frame to create working space. Utilize a 15mm socket and breaker bar to remove the bracket holding the rotor and pads in position. Glide off the rotor, and after cleaning the hub and caliper bracket with a wire brush, insert the new pads into the bracket once the new rotor is in place.
