To reset your Toyota Highlander's security system or anti-theft feature, start by inserting the key into the ignition and turning it to the start position. Try starting the engine and then return the key to the start position. Leave it there for 5 to 10 minutes until the theft light disappears. Finally, turn the key to the off position briefly. The anti-theft system will then be deactivated, allowing you to use your vehicle normally again.
We own a 2007 Highlander that has been experiencing starting issues despite installing a new battery and alternator and following proper battery disconnect procedures. Despite our best efforts, the car would not start - although all the lights were functioning and the door alarm was activating. To cut a long story short, in a surprising turn of events, we managed to resolve the problem without fear of the vehicle being stolen. We discovered that tucked behind the glovebox was a black box that needed to be unplugged. Once we unplugged it, the car started and operated without any issues.
To reset the security system, first turn on the ignition key and try to start the engine, but it will not run. Keep the key in the on position for 10 minutes until the safety light flashes and then goes off. Turn the switch off and wait for 5 seconds.
