The 2019 Toyota Highlander comes with a standard auto start stop function. This system automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle is stopped with the foot on the brake and restarts it when the brake is released to accelerate, helping to conserve fuel in stop and go traffic. To deactivate the start stop feature, simply press the button on the steering wheel that displays an A with a circular arrow around it. An indicator light on the dashboard will confirm that the feature has been turned off.

You have the ability to temporarily deactivate the automatic stop feature by pressing the A-Off button located in the switch cluster on the left side of the steering wheel. It's important to remember that this needs to be done every time you start the car. Unfortunately, it's not possible to completely turn off the stop-start mode in the vehicle settings. Some may view this as a questionable choice by Toyota, considering that automatically stopping the engine could pose a safety risk.

If you are located close to Fairmont, WV, and own a 2018 or 2019 Toyota Highlander, AutoStop Eliminator is willing to provide you with one of their OBD2 devices that ensures the start/stop feature remains disabled permanently. You might even be the first one to receive this device for your Highlander at no cost and potentially get compensated for your time. Unfortunately, this offer was extended to me, but I live 10 hours away. This would mark their initial venture in creating an OBD2 prototype for a Toyota vehicle.
