To disable the stop-start function on a Toyota Highlander, there are two methods to choose from. In some models, you can locate a button labeled stop/start, eco, or ESS on the dashboard. Press this button, and the task is complete. For models without such a button, you will need to remove the fuse associated with the system. To access the fuse box, look to the left of the steering wheel for a subtle seam or crack along the dashboard. Using a screwdriver or prybar, carefully open this panel. Inside, you will find several fuses. The back of the panel will have a diagram indicating the purpose of each fuse. If this information is not on the panel, consult the vehicle's owner's manual. Identify the fuse needed and remove it from the box. Check if the thin metal strip connecting the two raised sections of the fuse is intact. If the strip is broken, the fuse is damaged and should be replaced. Otherwise, the fuse can be reinserted. Replacement fuses are affordable, typically priced around 10 dollars.
