To deactivate the Auto/Start stop function on the Chevy Equinox, you can take the following steps: Start the Equinox and shift the transmission to L, which activates Manual Mode. Adjust the range of gears by using the + and - buttons on the gear shift, with the gear number displaying on the instrument panel. Chevy did not provide a direct button to disable this feature, so this method is the only option. If you encounter difficulties, consider visiting a dealership to have the vehicle manually configured using specialized diagnostic tools.

To turn off the auto start-stop feature on a Chevy Equinox, press the start/stop button on the dashboard repeatedly until the indicator light on the dashboard turns off.

You can prevent the auto stop feature by turning on the air conditioner or shifting the gear into neutral just before coming to a stop. However, be sure to shift back into drive before starting to move again. I am uncertain if this may cause damage to the transmission. Personally, I dislike the auto stop feature as it doesn't save any gas and just puts strain on the starter.

If you have the front defroster on, the automatic shutoff feature is disabled, but only if the air conditioning is turned off. The fan operates at full speed when the defroster is on, but it can be adjusted to a lower setting.
