To activate or deactivate the daytime running lights on a Ford Escape, you can access the settings through the information display and the control switch located on the left side of the steering wheel. Navigate to settings, then vehicle, followed by lighting, and finally select daytime lights. If you have enabled the daytime running lamps and wish to use them, switch the lighting control to the auto lamp position. While driving with the headlamps off, the daytime running lights will automatically illuminate and adjust between the daytime lights and headlamps as necessary based on the ambient light levels and wiper activation. The daytime running lights will function only in the auto lamp position and if you have configured them to activate under preferences in the information display. If the daytime running lights are disabled in the information display, they will not turn on at all.

Please be aware that daytime running lights (DRL) serve as a safety feature by increasing visibility of your vehicle during the day. If your vehicle has a "DRL off" setting, you can switch the headlight control knob to this position to deactivate the lights.

In 2010, the DRL needs to be disconnected for the lights to function at night and not during the daytime.
