The airbags in the Ford Escape can only be deactivated by the car's automatic sensing system, which uses sensors in the seat cushion and seatbelt to detect if there is a passenger in the front seat of the SUV. The indicator light for the airbag is positioned above the air vents in the center dashboard. It will remain on continuously if the sensing system has disabled the airbag. When an adult is detected, the light will briefly flash and then turn off. If the airbag light remains lit, inspect the front seat for any obstructions such as cargo pushing from behind or items trapped under the seat. To reset the system, turn off the vehicle, wait for 2 minutes, and then restart it. If the airbag light is still illuminated, it is recommended to schedule a service appointment.

To deactivate the airbags on the passenger side, you should switch off the ignition for ten seconds. Then, switch it back on and check for the airbag light to illuminate for six seconds before turning off.
