If you want to deactivate the hill start assist system in your Ford Escape, you can do so by accessing the driver assist menu on the driver's information center. Navigate to the menu and scroll down until you find the hill start assist option to turn it off. The hill start assist function is intended to keep the brakes engaged when you're ascending a hill to prevent your vehicle from rolling back. This can result in more seamless acceleration when you stop and need to resume climbing a hill. If your system isn't functioning properly, be sure to check the ECU for any error codes.

There is no way to manually activate or deactivate the feature on my 2017 Escape Titanium. It automatically turned on when I installed a trailer hitch while the car was lifted on ramps. This feature does not come with any customizable settings. It's just one of the many electronic issues I've experienced with this vehicle.

There is no option to disable this feature. When I take my car to the Ford dealership, they consistently discover additional issues, such as needing a $500 brake repair job.

In the manual it says that if you rev the engine, it will shut off automatically. I attempted to click on the message multiple times to dismiss it, but it wouldn't go away. I also turned the car off for 20 minutes to reset it. At this moment, I'm uncertain whether the revving or shutting off the vehicle did the trick.
