If you're driving a MINI Cooper and need to reset the safe mode, it's a simple process that will only require about 4 to 8 minutes of your time. Start off by opening the driver's side door and getting in. Then insert the physical key into the ignition and turn it to the off position. Find and press the odometer reset button on the center dashboard until the safe mode resets.

In 2011, this all began for me. I took my car in for maintenance, including an oil change and topping up all the fluids. However, when I got back on the freeway, my car went into a restricted mode. I had to pull over onto the shoulder and then tried my second key remote, which appeared to have solved the issue for the time being, but I am not confident in its reliability. The service alert and check engine light are still on in the speedometer display, but not in the tachometer.

Hey there! FYI, trying to reset the battery won't solve the problem. It's actually an issue with the ECU. Once the issue is logged, it will remain that way until a service shop resets it or you switch keys. So, there's no need to waste time on the battery disconnect method.
