To create more storage space in the Toyota 4Runner, you can fold down the rear seats by completing the following steps: Shift the front seats forward for more room. Locate the release cord positioned between the bottom and back seat cushions of the rear seats and pull it to fold them down. You can then remove the headrests by pressing the unlock buttons and sliding them out. In newer models, the headrests can be collapsed instead of being taken out entirely. By flattening the back seating, you can expand the 4Runner's cargo capacity to between 88.8 and 89.7 cubic feet, but with all seats in place, it decreases to a range of 46.3 to 47.2 cubic feet. The 4Runner provides 39.3 inches of front headroom, 38.6 inches of rear headroom, and 34.3 inches of headroom in the third row.
