To reset the security system on your 2002 Chevy Silverado, insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the on position. Keep it in this position until the security light turns off, which typically takes about 15 minutes. Once the light goes out, start the truck without turning the key back, just turn it to start. This action will reprogram the transponder from the ignition switch. To prevent unauthorized access using an unregistered key in your Chevrolet Silverado, General Motors has integrated an anti-theft system known as Passlock. If an incorrect key or tool is used to start the ignition, the Passlock system will disable the fuel system of the truck. Without the fuel system functioning, your Silverado's engine will be unable to start.

This car is equipped with a passlock system instead of a transponder, which can be one of three types: passlock 1, 2, or 3. I've been struggling for the last four months to start and operate my vehicle because of this.

Wallace, you're mistaken. My husband and I have been working on his '02 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 for three days. We've tried turning the switch on and off multiple times, but the truck still won't start.

I replaced my turn signal switch and ignition lock but couldn't program the Passlock. After many tries, I discovered that my interior lights, headlights, door locks, and chime were not functioning. I eventually traced the issue to the 10 amp TBC fuse in the lower right side of the under hood fuse box. Despite the fuse appearing okay, replacing it allowed me to complete the coding process. Hopefully, this tip will help others avoid wasting time and frustration.

In 2002, if I create a new key to unlock the door, will that also disarm the security system in the suburban?

Start your car and leave the ignition on for 10 minutes, then turn it off for 1 minute. Repeat this process three times: 10 minutes on, 1 minute off. After the third time, start the car with the driver's door open. Don't forget to set your timer. I hope this guidance is useful.

I changed the key tumbler and performed a security reset, but the car still won't start. When I put the old tumbler back in, it starts up without any issues. What could be causing this problem?

Here's my paraphrased version: I followed several suggestions to fix the issue. I kept the key in the on position for 15 minutes with a battery charger set to 2 amps. After starting it three times (the security light was the only one on), I still had the same problem. Finally, I replaced the 10-amp fuse, and that solved the issue!
