Checking the transmission fluid in a 2005 Ford F-150 is a simple process that should only take about 5 to 10 minutes of your time. To begin, grab a paper towel or rag and pop open the hood of your truck. Use the prop arm on the left side of the engine bay to keep the hood in place. Next, find the dipstick sticking out from the transmission reservoir on the right side of the engine. Pull out the dipstick, clean it, reinsert it back into the reservoir, then pull it out again. Check the fluid level based on how much liquid is visible on the dipstick.

Start the car and allow it to reach the correct operating temperature. Shift the gear lever from park through all gears and then back to park. While the engine is running, remove the dipstick, clean it, reinsert it, and then pull it out again to check that the fluid level is within the cross-hatched area. If it's not, add fluid as needed.

Pop open the hood and yank out the dipstick. Give it a once-over to gauge the levels, then slide it back in place.
