With just a few simple steps, you can customize the keypad to your preferred code. Initially, you might find the factory code in your owner's manual, where a sticker typically displays the default code. If you don't have the manual on hand, you can also locate the same sticker on the remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module located behind a removable panel on the rear left side of the Explorer.

To locate the factory 5-digit keyless code for a Ford Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer, first locate the cover over the remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module, typically found towards the back left of the vehicle. Then, unscrew the panel counter-clockwise in order to remove it and reveal the code.
